Finding joy through grief. Grace Pudel's life is a mess, but she finds comfort in her snail collection, romance novels, and guinea pigs. As children, she and her twin brother Gilbert struggled with their paraplegic, alcoholic father, who was devastated by their mother's death. After his passing, child services separated them with Grace going to Canberra and Gilbert to Perth. Isolated and depressed, Grace retreats into compulsive hoarding until an unexpected friendship with lively octogenarian Pinky offers her a new source of joy.
