The Deckchair Cinema is going Green. |
Although our carbon footprint is not very large, this season we are taking steps to reduce it even further. |
All the light fittings in our control have been changed to low energy ones without any decrease in their effectiveness. |

In the office, computers and air conditioners are always turned off when not in use. We have also installed a timer on our small electric water heater, so that we have hot water only when we need it (to wash the cups and mugs on a daily basis) |
Our programs are being printed on 65% recycled paper and we are investigating options for printing on 100% Australian recycled paper. They will also be printed with soy based inks which have a much lower environmental impact. Other office paper is also recycled. |

We are aiming for environmentally friendly disposable food containers – either corn or palm leaf plates which easily compost in land fill. Of course, you can always bring your own bowls and utensils when you want to buy food as many people do at the markets. In fact we encourage you to do this! Our Timorese food vendors on Friday and Wednesday nights are serving on palm leaf plates which is brilliant. |

We continue to do our best to encourage our customers to place all rubbish and food scraps only in the green bins and, cans, glass and plastic drink containers in the yellow topped recycling bins. Half of our weekly waste is recycled. Your cooperation and understanding in this matter is greatly appreciated! A sizable portion of our waste is paper and cardboard matter. We have a Skip Bin dedicated to paper waste, which ensures more convenient recycling. |

We are currently undertaking an environmental audit, a power audit and a waste audit to review ways we can further minimize our impact on the environment. We hope you appreciate our efforts at the Deckchair Cinema and encourage you to make suggestions for further changes we may be able to take. |
